JD Mendez, an associate professor of chemistry at Indiana University Columbus, is no stranger to the transformative power of global experiences. Specializing in chitin — a naturally occurring biopolymer found in the shells of crustaceans, the exoskeletons of insects and the cell walls of fungi — Mendez also focuses on chemical education, particularly the ways 3D printing and gamification can enrich students’ understanding.

Weber State University continues to expand its green energy production capabilities with the completion of a second solar array covered parking lot on the Ogden campus.

More than 1,000 solar panels were installed on top of the new covered structure over the existing public pay lot. Construction on the lot began in late spring and will finish in mid-December. The pay lot is centrally located near the Student Services Center, Shepherd Union and Val A. Browning Center.

Tires are an indispensable part of daily life. Without them, our vehicles would just be a bunch of assembled parts — convenient to sit in, but not effective for getting where you are going.

While their usefulness is undisputed, tires do come with some problems. A 2016 Federal Highway Administration report found 280 million tires are discarded annually in the United States. Globally, this number is much higher — over a billion, according to a report by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Minnesota State University, Mankato ranks 15th nationally in international student population among master’s institutions, according to the annual Open Doors Report and press release that was released Nov. 18 by the Institute of International Education.

The rankings, which reflect data from the 2023-24 academic year, list Minnesota State Mankato as having 1,716 international students during the fall 2023 semester – five more students than in the fall 2022 semester.

Utah State University recently became the first institution in Utah to receive accreditation for its Supplemental Instruction program through the Academic Belonging & Learning Excellence (ABLE) office.

The International Center for Supplemental Instruction at the University of Missouri-Kansas City granted this accreditation on Aug. 1. This recognition affirms the program’s quality and adherence to national SI standards, offering students enhanced peer academic support and enabling SI leaders to achieve the Certified SI Leader distinction.
