A new study in the journal Scientific Reports offers a rare glimmer of hope in the face of climate change, suggesting glacial rivers and lakes may play a crucial role in mitigating the effects of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that recent studies have shown emerging as glaciers melt in warming global temperatures.

The Al Danos College of Business at Nicholls State University is expanding its MBA program to offer three new concentrations: Data Analytics, Human Resource Management, and Supply Chain Management. Applications for the new concentrations are now open for the spring 2025 semester.

Wesley Meares, PhD, and Lance Hunter, PhD, are avid sports fans and were intrigued by the U.S. Supreme Court's June 2021 ruling in NCAA v Alston that allowed student-athletes to profit from their Name, Image and Likeness. Before the ruling, student-athletes were prohibited by the NCAA from entering into contracts to promote products or brands.

December is here, and the traditional signs are all around campus. Cold winds blow. Snow flurries fly. UVM students hunker down for finals. And local eighth graders are taking fieldtrips to the STEM complex and the Davis Center.

Browns River Middle School has a many-year history of bringing students to UVM during finals week for the students to get a feel for what college is like and see some exciting science demonstrations. They return this year, coordinated by Lisa Windhausen, who brought 48 students to see hour-long science shows from the Chemistry and Physics Departments.

Two Cal Poly biological sciences students this year have been awarded National Science Foundation graduate research fellowships.

Erin Aiello, a graduate student, and Heather Neldner, a senior, will each receive $34,000 for three years within a five-year period in addition to a cost-of-education allowance as part of the fellowships.

The competitive fellowship was awarded nationally to 2,000 students this year. The awardees come from a wide range of scientific disciplines and states.

The Russ College of Engineering and Technology’s Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (ISEE) has been awarded $2 million for two projects by the U.S. Department of Energy to develop advanced filaments for additive manufacturing and graphite for energy storage applications from mining wastes.

Industry partners will provide an additional $419,048 of cost-share. Both projects support the goals of the United States government to transition to 100% clean energy by 2035.

Fourteen graduating seniors have completed the requirements of the University Honors Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

To graduate from the Honors Program, students must maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average, complete a culminating senior project or research thesis, and fulfill other curricular requirements.
